Loot wine be mine and then let's stay out for the night

Happy bank holiday weekend

Here are some pics of what I wore to a wine tasting evening with some friends on Friday night

A spot o' green and pink

Nothin special here.  I'm in such a clothes rut lately.

This skirt is my fallback for when I'm not feeling more imaginative

Still, you can't whack a spot of hot pink and leopard to add a touch of class to any proceedings

Bit of an outtake this one, but shows up the emerald eyeshadow nicely

I'm a little peeved with how these photos turned out.  The light was starting to fall so all the pics were slightly overpowered by a fading golden glow and I think I overdid it a bit on the contrast :(

Top - H&M via charity shop
Skirt - Ebay
Cardi - M&S outlet
Tights & Shoes - Next sale
Fobwatch - Groupon
Brooch - Etsy

Anyhoo,

This was our contribution to the evening.  Just something off the rack you know!

Why yes, it is a 1994 Chateau Mouton Rothschild

Nope?

Meant nothing to me either

But apparently it's a goodun, and it did taste rather nice

Among the oohing and aahing and talk of raspberries, plums and toffee bouquets, I probably muttered the odd inane comment like "mmm, peppery"

As usual I was more interested in the nibbles

Hope you all have a great weekend

PS.  UK dwellers don't forget to put your clocks forward!!  Public service! :)

I'd work very hard but I'm lazy

This is the kind of dress that I will never get bored of wearing.  It's casual but pretty, it's sooo comfy but still on the right side of twirly, it doesn't require me to breathe in all day or to wear special underwear and it looks great with big clunky shoes.

Because although I'm partial to dressing up on the odd occasion, for the most part I just can't be bothered.

I want to be comfortable and I don't want to have to make too much effort.  I don't want to have to spend more than 15 minutes doing my hair (including drying time)

But I still don't want to compromise my aesthetic, whatever that is, I'm still not sure

This is my new favourite dress.   It reminds me of the best bits of the 90's.

It reminds me a little of this dress but at a much better length for me

I only have to put it on and I feel pretty (oh so pretty)

Hurrah for lazy glamour

Dress - Asos
Shoes - French Connection
Necklace - Zara Taylor (seen in more detail here)

When I was thinking about the theme of this post, I couldn't help but think of this band

And this girl

Oh Justine, when I was 14 I desperately wanted to be you.  So effortlessly, androgynously cool, not a scrap of makeup to be seen

You were part of the coolest love triangle in britpop, had a pin-up boyfriend in Damon Albarn, the pretty boy of his time, but you didn't shy away from telling the music press that you weren't a fan of his band's music (cos let's face it, post Parklife, it was pretty much pants)  You were well educated, sexy in that rich girl art school way, and had a kick ass band of your own.

The perfect combination of artist and muse

I will never forget watching your live set at Glastonbury on the TV and seeing your bra-less chest in motion as you jumped up and down between vocals.  And I will never forget seeing you perform this song on Top of the Pops and squeeing in knowing recognition when I saw Damon playing keyboards.  You were one of the first women to make me want to be in a band.

I still remember buying this single in the Virgin Megastores in Chester.  Making a beeline for the new releases in my green stripey tights, Dr Martens and a knee length tasselled skirt.  I really felt like I was part of something

Of course, the band kind of imploded and I soon moved on to female musicians with Baby Jane makeup, glitter and chipped nails.

But it was good while it lasted!

And I still love this song!

Girl Gang

Yesterday was World Book Day.  My Little Miss decided she wanted to be Dorothy.  Cue a re-watch of the film and a trawl of the internet for inspiration

Of which I found lots!

As much as I've always wanted to be Mombi, I simply can't resist Glinda's sparkling beauty and that dress!  The colours, the colours, it's all too dreamy, I can't take it gaaaaaaah!

So I thought I'd share some other random stuff that's been inspiring me lately...

Inspiration has also come my way by way of this pastel punkette

Int she grand?  I'm totally inspired for Spring now!

Finally, on a musical note, I have been pleasantly surprised by the new direction this girl has taken

Pink and red together - swoon

Traditionally, I'll admit I was not a fan,  more of a dismissive overlooker.  But, reading a bit about her charity work, other extra curricular activities and her general attitude towards sexism in music, empowering women and the importance of building self esteem in young girls, has made me see her in a different light.  The latest album has echoes of Hole, Bikini Kill, The Breeders, and Lush among others, so the music's not bad either!

She has a bit of a potty mouth and her material is too adult for my 5 year old daughter at the moment but, given a choice between Kate and the bumping, grinding, copious flesh exposing, domestic violence acquiescing "pop princess" Rihanna, I know who I'd rather my daughter choose as a role model

Riot grrl for 21st century teens?  The Courtney legacy Courtney didn't quite manage to leave?

Inbetween Days

So according to the calendar it's officially Spring.  OK in theory, but in principle venturing out with just a cardigan and blazer tells quite a different story

What to do with those inbetween days...

Dig the pastel tights out

Paint nails in favourite colour combinations

Get used to being back at work

Fresh fruit for breakfast

 Build up the vinyl collection

Sort out paperback overspill

Scratch my kitsch itch!

Amongst other things
